Job Description

Policy Manual Consultant

Location: West Sacramento, CA (Hybrid - 3x in-office)

Salary: $68k to $72k

Job Type: Full-Time, Limited-Term (Approx. 2 years)

Schedule:

Hybrid schedule: minimum of three (3) days in-office and two (2) days remote per week. Overnight travel required approximately two times per month for 2–3 consecutive days; frequency may vary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation, editing, and updating of local school district policies and procedures.
  • Host in-person workshops to guide district staff through policy development.
  • Review and interpret state and federal education laws and regulations to ensure policy compliance.
  • Maintain up-to-date sample policy manuals that reflect current laws and best practices.
  • Answer questions and offer expert guidance to school districts on policy-related topics.
  • Work closely with support staff to tailor policy manuals to each district’s needs.
  • Provide technical support to school districts and county education offices.
  • Act as a project liaison, helping coordinate activities and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Prepare clear and thoughtful presentations and materials on complex policy issues.
  • Manage project tasks like scheduling meetings, taking notes, and tracking progress.
  • Travel often across California (including overnight trips) for meetings and trainings.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism and a commitment to its values.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in education policy, public administration, public policy, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in research or analysis, ideally in education, government, or nonprofit work.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Comfortable presenting detailed information to a range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
