Job Description

The Marketing Director will lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies that align with institutional goals and increase visibility, engagement, and attendance. This leadership role will oversee a collaborative internal team, external vendors, and all aspects of marketing, communications, and public relations. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and creative leader who thrives in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment and is passionate about data-informed storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing plans to support attendance, membership, fundraising, and educational programming goals.
  • Translate institutional vision into actionable and innovative marketing strategies.
  • Build team capacity and foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and accountability.
  • Supervise and mentor a small, collaborative marketing team (graphic designers and coordinator), along with contractors and vendors.
  • Oversee team workflows, project timelines, and adherence to brand standards.
  • Encourage continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  • Oversee execution of marketing strategies across: Digital channels : Social media, email, website, SEM and analytics. Traditional channels : Print, radio, outdoor, and broadcast. Experiential marketing : Events, sponsorship activations, and community engagement.
  • Ensure a unified brand voice and user experience across all platforms.
  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance, audience engagement, and market trends.
  • Leverage data to inform strategy, improve outcomes, and report on ROI.
  • Prepare regular performance reports and dashboards for executive leadership and board members.
  • Serve as the primary media contact and public spokesperson when needed.
  • Develop proactive PR strategies and manage crisis communications.
  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media.
  • Create and distribute press releases, media kits, and event promotions.
  • Identify, pursue, and manage strategic partnerships and sponsorships.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational mission and increase brand exposure through collaborative initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the marketing budget.
  • Ensure strategic allocation of resources and monitor spending to meet financial goals.
  • Work closely with Development, Programming, and Education teams to support storytelling, fundraising campaigns, and promotional efforts.
  • Ensure marketing strategies align with institutional goals and reflect the organization’s mission and values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in marketing leadership roles; experience in nonprofits, museums, or cultural institutions a plus.
  • Proven success in developing and executing strategic marketing campaigns across multiple channels. (Social Media, partenrships, digital touchpoints)
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Expertise in digital marketing, content strategy, analytics. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva a plus.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience working with creative agencies, media outlets, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
