JUNIOR NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

REPORTS TO: SR. NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

STATUS: EXEMPT

This role is to perform and assist in the tasks and responsibilities required to manage all aspects of networking operations within Boot Barn, including stores, offices, and warehouses. Under the director of the Sr. Network Admin, the Jr. Network Admin will execute key functions crucial to our infrastructure and daily operations which includes management of wired and wireless networking.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organizing, executing, and completing daily network support tickets as the first point of contact.
  • Diagnose and resolve network related issues such as connectivity, wireless, static IPs, VPN and WAN circuit down.
  • Follow standard help desk procedures and log all interactions in the ticketing system.
  • Support Network Admins in testing and maintaining LAN and WAN networks, including firewalls, ethernet switches, routers, access points, and VOIP systems.
  • Help maintain network source of truth documentation and network management software.
  • Run and analyze weekly/monthly bandwidth and availability reports for capacity and performance planning.
  • Assist with management of firmware and OS patching for networking equipment.
  • Coordinate with telecom vendors in the planning and execution of circuit and hardware upgrades or new store turn-ups at various retail locations.
  • Coordinate and follow through with ISPs for support tickets of WAN and VOIP circuits.
  • Stage, configure, and test new store equipment prior to deployment.
  • Assist in network security tasks such as configuring access-lists, log analysis and investigation of incidents.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention to the Sr. Network Admin on and off hours.
  • Schedule and participate in network maintenance windows sometimes off hours.
  • Adds/Moves/Changes of ports, VLANs, IP Addresses, descriptions etc.
  • Evaluate, Plan and Execute structured cabling projects and collaborate with technicians at corporate and store locations for new installs, overnight re-models, and/or port turn ups.
  • Demonstrates high level of quality work, attendance and appearance.
  • Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers and management.
  • Adhere to all local, federal and state laws in addition to Company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of OSI or TCP/IP Stack.
  • Focus on networking and network infrastructure professionally and academically.
  • Intermediate networking troubleshooting skills with desire to find root cause.
  • Working knowledge and experience with basic tools (e.g. ping, traceroute, nslookup, CLI, putty)
  • Hands on experience both configuring and troubleshooting firewalls (eg. Fortinet, Palo Alto, Sonicwall).
  • Hands on experience with routers, wireless, and ethernet switches (eg. Cisco, Aruba, Juniper)
  • High level understanding of routing and routing protocols (Static routing, OSPF, BGP)
  • Understanding of networking principles and processes such as VLANs, subnetting, VPN, MAC address learning, cabling, and change control.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols such as DNS, ARP, DHCP, SNMP, IPv4, IPv6.
  • Ability to participate in on-call after-hour support.
  • Strong communication, customer service, time management and organizational skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Certifications or education:
  • Network+, Security+, SSCP, NSE4, PCNSA, CWNA, CCNA, and/or College Degree etc.
  • Ability to research, understand, and execute advanced concepts quickly.
  • Knowledge of physical network infrastructure, structured cabling, and the industry in general.
  • Wireshark and packet capture analysis experience.
  • Experience with network management platforms.
  • Scripting/automation with Python, Ansible etc.

PAY RANGE: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00/yr*

*compensation varies based on geography, skills, experience, and tenure
