Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a CAD Technician or Industrial Designer with a strong background in industrial design, 3D model-making, and design theory. This role involves creating physical prototypes and models that support product development of various Consumer Devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on machining and hardware building (approximately 70% of time).
  • 3D modeling and CAD design work.
  • Modifying and repairing CAD files for prototyping.
  • Operating and maintaining 3D printers (e.g., PolyJet, SLA, FDM) and shop equipment.
  • Performing post-processing of printed and machined parts.
  • Assembling and/or modifying parts using shop tools and techniques.
  • Running tests related to stress, durability, texture, and design.
  • Optimizing for manufacturing process, cost, and appearance.
  • Collaborating closely with design engineers, product engineers, and PMs.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Prioritizing tasks based on deadlines by working backwards from due dates.

Qualifications:

Educational background in design, manufacturing, model making, or equivalent work experience.

Experience with 3D printers (PolyJet, SLA, FDM).

Experience with CAD software such as Rhino, Alias, SolidWorks, or Creo (familiarity with one is sufficient).

A portfolio showcasing diverse projects and problem-solving capabilities.

Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for direct interaction with internal customers.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Ability to optimize physical models based on feedback from engineering and design teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in sanding, painting, and finishing parts.
  • Experience working with vendors.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator).
  • Experience with CAM tools (Fusion, Mastercam, RhinoCAM).
  • Experience with 3D scanning.
  • Background in consumer devices, or relevant experience in automotive or similar industries.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (between 6am–12pm start times, still within a 40-hour work week).
